Quote Play

“His ear heard more than what was said to him, and his slow speech had overtones not of thought, but of understanding beyond thought.”
John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men

5 minutes- Think about this quote silently. Write what it means in your own words.

5 minutes- Share your meaning with a peer and see how your interpretations compare/contrast.

10 minutes- Decide on one shared meaning and write it down. Discuss when you could see something like this happening in real life. Next, work together to write a scene from a play where this occurs. It must be 2 pages long, and you will “act” it out in class.
