Julius
Caesar has been known throughout history as one of Rome’s most effective
rulers. In Shakespeare’s play, Julius Caesar was murdered by his “trusted
friends” and Senators, as many of them thought they were stopping a “tyrant”
from taking over Rome. At his funeral, both Brutus and Antony gave speeches to
try to convince the Roman people of their causes. Brutus tried to show the
crowd that what he and the Senators did was in their best interests, while Antony
refuted that wholeheartedly. Though Brutus gave a
convincing speech at Caesar’s funeral, it was Antony who proved to be more
persuasive in
his cause by appealing to both
emotion and logic, a
clever use of sarcasm, and by using Brutus’ own words against him.
